On Monday 18.7.2016 the Deputy Commander of the UNIFIL Sector West, Colonel Marko Alamäki handed over his duties to Colonel Jyrki Kaisanlahti.

Colonel Alamäki served as the Deputy Commander for the Brigadier General Arturo Nitti for six months. The main responsibilities of the Deputy Commander are to serve as the Commander’s first substitute as well as plan and develop the training and other activities in the Sector West area. According to Colonel Alamäki, he is handing over his duties with mixed emotions.

- I have truly enjoyed my time here. However, I am also happy to return back home to my family and enjoy the rest of the summer in Finland.

During the time of Colonel Alamäki Sector West has had a focus especially in developing the cooperation between the key leaders and the troops working in the area. Also the collaboration with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has enhanced.

Colonel Kaisanlahti takes over the duties in high spirits.

- The Finnish peacekeepers in Lebanon are very professional and motivated. Furthermore, I see the UNIFIL having very good requisites in continuing the operation.

Previously Colonel Kaisanlahti has served as the Commander of Kainuu Jaeger Battalion and as the Director of the Strategic Plans Sector of the Amy Command. He will serve as the Deputy Commander of Sector West till November 2016.
