Virginia National Guard leadership visited the Finnish Army

The Virginia National Guard leadership from the U.S.A paid a visit to the Finnish Army and the Finnish Air Force from 25 to 28 March 2019.

The Virginia National Guard leadership familiarised with the activities of the Finnish Army and the Finnish Air Force this week. The visit programme included visits to the Karelia Brigade, the Army Command, the Lapland Air Command, the exercise Northern Wind 2019, and the Finnish Border Guard.

While visiting the field training exercise Northern Wind 2019 in Northern Sweden, the delegation met Finnish exercise troops and familiarised with their operating. In the Karelia Brigade, the delegation observed firing conducted in Pahkajärvi as well as familiarised with equipment and simulators. During the visit, future cooperation possibilities were also charted.

The visit was hosted by Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Petri Hulkko, and the Virginia National Guard delegation was led by Adjutant General of Virginia, Major General Timothy P. Williams. The Finnish Air Force part of the visit was hosted by Chief of Staff Air Force Command, Brigadier General Jari Mikkonen.
