20.8.2026 | The local defence exercise Lively Stronghold 26 led by the Guard Jaeger Regiment, concentrating in the Uusimaa region, will bring together a training audience of around 550 soldiers from 30 August to 4 September 2026. In addition to the Guard Jaeger Regiment, units from the Coastal Brigade, Naval and Army Academies, authorities and other actors in the area, and the cities of Vantaa and Kerava will take part in the exercise.

12.2.2026 | The Army will exercise local defence during 20.2.–6.3.2026. The series of exercises will be participated by altogether up to c. 3,500 soldiers, a number of other authorities, as well as business sector organisations from across Finland.

12.2.2026 | The local defence exercise ”Karelian Stone 26” will be held in areas of Lappeenranta, Taipalsaari, Savitaipale, and Imatra during 2–6 March 2026.

16.9.2019 | At the end of July, a training event with its focus on military working dog first aid took place in Karkialampi, Mikkeli. This training event piloting served in producing guidelines for future development of training in military working dog combat first aid. The training event was attended by service personnel from the Army Command and from the Police.

5.2.2019 | Undertaking the voluntary military service in the Karelia Brigade, Corporal Veera Parkkila and Jaeger Alissa Kahr encourage women to take up the challenge boldly. Over the past years, the number of women applying for the voluntary military service has been on the increase with more than 1,500 applicants in 2018.

21.8.2025 | The Armoured Brigade will lead the local defence exercise Mighty Stronghold 25 in areas of Pirkanmaa, Päijät-Häme, Central Finland, and Kanta-Häme during 1-5 September 2025. The exercise will be participated by units from the Armoured Brigade, Air Force, and Logistics Command Headquarters, as well as by a number of authorities and co parties. Exercise activity will concentrate on the area of Pirkanmaa and Hattula.

10.2.2025 | The Army will organise the local defence exercises during 18.2.–7.3. this spring. From the Defence Forces, the altogether six local defence exercises will be participated by up to c. 3,000 conscripts, reservists, and service personnel, as well as more than 400 vehicles in total. As is characteristic for local defence exercises, the training audience will also include a significant number of other authorities and business sector stakeholders.

25.11.2025 | The national parade on the Independence Day 6 December will affect traffic and parking arrangements in Kouvola. During the parade events, the public is kindly asked to move on foot downtown, in the area of the Finnish baseball stadium, Sumulaaksonkatu, Salpausselänkatu, and Kymen Lukko.

15.2.2024 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment -led local defence exercise Kehä 24, the first one this year, will be held during 3.–8.3.2024 in Eastern Uusimaa. The strength of the training audience will be up to c. 1,000 personnel comprising conscripts, reservists, and service personnel. The exercise will be commanded by Deputy Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Colonel Vesa Laitonen.

16.9.2025 | On Wednesday, September 17, conscripts who have served 255 days in the Karelia Brigade will complete their military service and transfer to the reserve.

24.11.2023 | The national parade on the Independence Day will contribute to changes affecting traffic and parking in Oulu on 6 December 2023. We recommend that you arrive on foot, by bicycle or public transport in the venue area.

17.8.2023 | The multinational training exercise will be held in the region of southwestern and southern Finland during 27.8.-8.9.2023. The exercise will be participated by troops from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

10.2.2025 | The Jaeger Brigade -led Lapland Stone 25 -local defence exercise will be held in the regions of Haaparanta, Tornio, Keminmaa, and Kemi during 18.–23.2.2025.

17.3.2025 | The MD500 helicopter is a U.S. -manufactured light utility helicopter. In the Finnish Defence Forces, the MD500s carry the military designation HH and are operated in the Army by the Utti Jaeger Regiment’s Helicopter Battalion. The MD500s are used, among other, for the Finnish Defence Forces’ rotary wing pilot training, personnel transports, and operational missions.

20.8.2024 | The Jaeger Brigade will hold the local defence exercise Lapland Stronghold in the area of Inari Municipality during 2.–6.9.2024.

22.8.2024 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment will lead the Kehä 24 local defence exercise in the Helsinki metropolitan area and the region of Uusimaa from 31 August to 6 September 2024. The exercise will focus on local defence and cooperation with other authorities.

22.2.2022 | From 7-11 March 2022, the Vaasa 22 local defence exercise led by Pori Brigade will assemble, in addition to Defence Forces personnel, conscripts and reservists, also authorities in the region of Ostrobothnia, personnel of the City of Vaasa as well as businesses and actors in the area.

22.2.2022 | Local defence exercise Kehä 1/22 led by the Guard Jaeger Regiment will be organized in the area of Uusimaa from 6 to 11 March 2022. The strength of the training units will be around 740 consisting of conscripts, reservists and regular personnel. The exercise will be directed by the Deputy Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Colonel Vesa Laitonen.

22.2.2022 | The Army will exercise local defence tasks across Finland from 26 February to 11 March 2022. Undertaking training will develop the local units’ readiness to carry out local combat and protection missions as part of a wider defense effort, and also ensure fluidity of inter-agency cooperation in case of disruption.

26.11.2024 | The national parade on the Independence Day 6 December 2024 will affect traffic and parking in Lappeenranta. During the parade events, the public is kindly asked to move on foot downtown, in the area of Kimpinen, on Ainonkatu, and at the harbour.

28.8.2023 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment -led local defence exercise Kehä 23, the second one this year, will be held during 3.–8.9.2023 in the capital region. The strength of the training audience will be up to c. 800 personnel comprising conscripts, reservists, and service personnel. The exercise will be commanded by Deputy Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Colonel Vesa Laitonen.

24.8.2023 | Local defence will be exercised throughout the country during 1.–8. September. Across Finland, the exercises will develop collective security, inter-agency co-operation, and the ability to prepare for disturbance situations. Joint drilling will include, for instance, situations relating to rescue activity and civil protection.

21.2.2023 | The Jaeger Brigade will lead the Local Defence Exercise North 1/23 in the region of Lapland during 24.2.–3.3.2023. The objective of the exercise is to develop the local troops’ readiness for regional combat and protection missions, as well as to strengthen public authorities’ capability for joint operating in disturbance situations.

26.9.2022 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment’s 1st Military Police Company will undertake training in an exercise organised in the areas of Malminkartano and Lauttasaari from 27 to 28 September and from 4 to 5 October 2022.

22.2.2023 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment -led local defence exercise Kehä 23 will be held in the reion of Uusimaa during 2. – 10.3.2023.

26.8.2022 | 2. Jaeger Company and 2. Military Police Company will exercise in Helsinki (Östersundom, Korsnäs, Oulunkylä, Kumpula and Jätkäsaari) on 29.8.-1.9.2022. The exercising will involve using drill ammunition inside the exercise buildings.

4.4.2022 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment’s 2nd Military Police Company will undertake training in an exercise organised in the area of Vuosaari, Helsinki from 6 to 7 April 2022. Blank bullets will be used inside the exercise building. More information in noise notification below.

21.11.2022 | The national parade on the Independence Day will contribute to changes affecting traffic and parking in Hamina on 6 December 2022. To avoid traffic congestion, the public is asked to move on foot in the downtown area for the duration of the parade events.

7.4.2022 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment’s 1. and 2. Jaeger Company, Headquarters and Signal Company as well as 2. Military Police Company will undertake training in the capital area region from 9 to 15 April 2022. The exercise areas will include Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tuusula, and the area in the vicinity of the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

23.8.2022 | The year’s second local defence exercise led by the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Kehä 22, will be organized in the Helsinki metropolitan area and in Western Uusimaa. The strength of the training units will be around 1,100, consisting of conscripts, reservists and regular personnel. The exercise will be led by the Deputy Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Colonel Vesa Laitonen.

9.8.2022 | During the night of 9 to 10 August, the Guard Jaeger Regiment and National Defence University will exercise together with the Helsinki Police Department and City of Helsinki in areas of Helsinki city centre and Meilahti. At 21:00-03:00, traffic may occasionally and locally be affected by exercise activity. Traffic guidance will be provided on exercise sites.

8.7.2022 | In the Guard Jaeger Regiment, the Army complementary international exercise and training activity will continue on 11 July 2022 with the strength of circa 150 British Army troops that will arrive at Santahamina to exercise with the Readiness Unit and 2. Military Police Company.

17.6.2022 | In the Guard Jaeger Regiment, the Army complementary international exercise and training activity will start on 20 June 2022. A training audience force involving a US Light infantry Company with the strength of circa 100 troops will arrive at Santahamina to exercise with the Readiness Unit and 2. Military Police Company. The exercise and training activity cooperation will be participated by both conscripts and service personnel.

25.5.2022 | The national parade on the Flag Day of the Finnish Defence Forces to be held on 4 June 2022 will contribute to changes concerning traffic, parking and public transport in Helsinki. To avoid traffic congestion, the public is kindly asked to move on foot or by public transport in the city centre during the parade events.

23.8.2022 | Local defence exercise Naantali-Raisio 22 is led by the Pori Brigade and it will gather approximately 1,200 persons to train together in the Naantali and Raisio area 4-9 September 2022. In addition to Pori Brigade, authorities, businesses and actors from the region will be participating in the exercise, as well as the towns of Naantali and Raisio.

23.8.2022 | The Army will be training local defence across Finland 2–9 September 2022. The exercises will improve local troops’ readiness to carry out local combat and protection tasks and strengthen the authorities’ abilities to cooperate in situations of disruption everywhere in the country.

25.8.2021 | From 3 to 11 September 2021, the Finnish Defence Forces will train tasks of local defence across Finland. Apart from the Finnish Defence Forces, the exercises will also be participated by several agencies and organisations. Undertaking training strengthens local defence readiness in responding to rapid changes in the security situation, and develops inter-agency cooperation between authorities in disturbance situations.

22.2.2021 | Over the coming weeks 9 and 10, the Finnish Defence Forces and different authorities will train local defence tasks across Finland. 17.2.2020 | On 24-28 February 2020, the Jaeger Brigade and other authorities in the Lapland region will continue training practical interoperability in inter-authority situations in the local defence exercise Lappi 20 in the region of Sodankylä–Kittilä–Rovaniemi.

18.2.2019 | A local defence exercise led by the Armoured Bridade, the exercise Pirkanmaa 19, will be organised in the region of Pirkanmaa from 4 to 8 March 2019. The participating exercise troops will be visible particularly in the Tampere area.
