12.5.2026 | The NATO defence alliance's joint operational doctrine working meeting will be held for the first time in Helsinki from 12 to 14 May 2026. The purpose is to enhance interoperability among NATO member countries by standardising common doctrines and the associated terminology. All 32 NATO member countries, parts of NATO's command organisation, and representatives from NATO's Centres of Excellence have been invited to the event.

NATO’s Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) became operational at Mikkeli in conjunction with the Army Command on 1 September 2025, and the opening ceremony was held on 3 October 2025.

The Finnish Defence Forces will shift to using the NATO-standard calibres 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm, 9x19mm, and 12.7x99mm for new small arms. The decision taken will improve, among other, the soldier’s operating capability, interoperability, and security of supply.

12.5.2026 | Försvarsalliansen Natos gemensamma operativa doktrinverkstad arrangeras för första gången i Helsingfors den 12–14 maj 2026. Målet är att förbättra interoperabiliteten mellan Natos medlemsländer genom att standardisera gemensamma doktriner samt den tillhörande terminologin. Alla Natos 32 medlemsländer, delar av Natos kommandostruktur samt representanter från Natos kompetenscenter har bjudits in till evenemanget.

22.9.2025 | Deputy Commander of NATO Joint Force Command Norfolk, Vice Admiral James Morley, and Chief of the Norwegian Army, Major General Lars Lervik visited Finland during 15—17 September 2025. The visit was hosted at the Army Command by Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki.

Den marktaktiska ledningen för Natos nordliga område (Multi-Corps Land Component Command, MCLCC) inledde sin verksamhet i anslutning till Arméstaben i S:t Michel den 1 september 2025, invigningen firades den 3 oktober 2025 i S:t Michel.

NATO’s Multi-Corps Land Component Command Northwest (MCLCC-NW) celebrates its official inauguration on the 3rd of October, 2025, in Mikkeli. The flags of the current nations for the Core Staff Element are raised together with the NATO flag.

3.11.2025 | The international air defence exercise ADEX Mallet Strike 2/25 will be organized in the Lohtaja Firing Range and Training Area from 11 to 20 November 2025.

17.4.2026 | Kommendören för Armén och befälhavaren för den marktaktiska ledningen för Natos nordliga område (MCLCC-NW), generallöjtnant Pasi Välimäki, var värd för den konferens som Alliansens marktaktiska ledning (LANDCOM) ordnade i S:t Michel 15-16.4.2026.

31.1.2025 | The Commander of NATO’s Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC), Lieutenant General Ralph Wooddisse, visited Finland on 30 January 2025. The visit was hosted by the Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki. The ARRC is based in the UK and provides the framework for one of NATO’s Strategic Reserve Corps.

15.10.2024 | Exercise Lightning Strike 24 to be led by the Army Academy will be organized in the Rovajärvi and Rovaniemi area from 4 to 28 November 2024. The exercise is a part of the United States-led exercise series Dynamic Front 25 conducted in the territories of five countries, being the largest NATO artillery exercise series ever conducted in Europe.

22.2.2024 | Försvarsmakten deltar i övningen Nordic Response 24 som leds av Norge. Övningen kommer att hållas i norra delarna av Finland, Norge och Sverige 4–15 Mars 2024. Nordic Response 24 är Arméns och samtidigt Försvarsmaktens mest omfattande engagemang i en internationell övning utomlands i historien. Arméns övningsstyrka är cirka 2500 personer, varav 350 är personal, 1060 är beväringar och 1120 reservister.

11.5.2026 | Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Defence Forces Logistics Command to procure thermal clip-on optics, related equipment, and spare parts for sniper and designated marksman rifles. The value of the procurement, excluding value-added tax, is approximately EUR 24.5 million.

17.4.2026 | The Armoured Brigade will lead the Army mechanised exercise Mighty Arrow 26 at the Pohjankangas Firing Range and Training Area in Niinisalo from 24 April to 9 May. Approximately 2800 persons will participate in the exercise, most of them conscripts and about 350 international troops. Almost 500 vehicles will be used in the exercise, including approximately 160 tanks and armoured vehicles.
