Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Defence Forces Logistics Command to procure thermal clip-on optics, related equipment, and spare parts for sniper and designated marksman rifles. The value of the procurement, excluding value-added tax, is approximately EUR 24.5 million.

A thermal clip-on optic refers to a thermal imaging sight mounted in front of a weapon’s primary day optic, providing thermal imaging capability to sniper and designated marksman rifles. The Defence Forces Logistics Command will acquire the optics through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The TigIR-M20 thermal sights will be supplied by the German company Andres Industries AG, selected through competitive tendering conducted by NSPA.

As a result of this procurement, the new sniper and designated marksman rifles will be equipped with thermal imaging capability that meets the operational requirements of the Finnish Defence Forces. The acquisition is part of the development of night combat and sniper capabilities produced under The Dismounted Soldier System Programme.
