A logistical movement of US forces and equipment through Norway and Sweden to Finland and their exit back to their home country will be conducted during April and June. The objective of the logistical operation is to maintain and develop military interoperability and performance and to develop the capability of Finland, Sweden and Norway to receive troops from the United States. IR24 is a sub exercise of the USAREUR-AF’s DEFENDER and NATO’s Steadfast Defender exercises.

Northern Forest 24 is the most substantial national exercise of the Finnish Defence Forces in spring 2024. it will take place in Rovajärvi from 26 to 31 May, with allied soldiers from the United States and Norway taking part. Before the Northern Forest 24, US troops will also participate in the regional artillery firing exercise (ALTAH Northern Forest 24), taking place in the same area from 13 to 25 May.

Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command supports the Finnish Army in the logistical movement of allied forces participating in the above exercises in Finland, and makes arrangements for the reception of troops and host nation support. The United States will contribute a total of approximately 2,000 troops and approximately 600 vehicles to the exercises.
