Tuomas Tiilikainen appointed Commander of the Finnish Navy

The President of the Republic has appointed Commodore Tuomas Tiilikainen as Commander of the Finnish Navy and Brigadier General Vesa Valtonen as Chief of Personnel (J1) of the Defence Command as of 1 January 2024. In addition, Tiilikainen was reappointed to the post of Admiral for the period 1 January 2024–30 June 2027.

Commodore Tuomas Antero Tiilikainen (b. 1965) is currently Chief of Personnel (J1) of the Defence Command. Previously, he has served as Chief of Staff of the Navy, Commandant of the Naval Academy and Chief of Department at the Naval Command. He was promoted to Commodore in 2019.

Brigadier General Vesa Petteri Valtonen (b. 1969) is currently the Commander of the Pori Brigade. Previously, he has served as Deputy Chief of Department at the Army Command, Secretary General of the Security Committee of the Ministry of Defence and Battalion Commander of the Karelia Brigade. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2022.
