A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, a combination of subordinate units from II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of August. The detachment with a strength of approximately 60 Marines will be deployed in Nyland Brigade, Dragsvik and it will operate mainly within the Brigade´s training areas.

This co-operation is a cross-border training event and part of the bilateral defence co-operation between Finland and the United States. Nyland Brigade has a long experience of international co-operation and during the last years the cooperation with the United States has increased.

- We are glad that the Marines are back to continue their co-operation with us. Nyland Brigade has an established and well-functioning support organisation to receive and host the allies that are visiting us. The new capabilities that they bring with them allow us to continue and further develop our co-operation, says the Chief of Staff of Nyland Brigade, Commander Pekka Snellman.

A different detachment from USMC is planned to arrive in Dragsvik later this year to participate in the Finnish Navy’s main military exercise, Freezing Winds 24, at the end of November.
