At the Jaeger Brigade, survival skills will be trained on the SERE instructors’ course during 17.–30.8.2024. The course will be attended by soldiers from Finland, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Great Britain.
The SERE instructors of the Jaeger Brigade and the Finnish Defence Forces will provide the soldiers with training in skills relating to the SERE training concept.
The objective is that the course graduates master the C-level SERE instructor knowledge and skills. The participants will be trained in, among other, survival skills and evasion in multiple environments in the terrain and urban conditions, procedures while captured, and escape back to the friendly forces.
The course comprises a training phase and an applied SERE training exercise. The training phase completed, the soldiers’ competence will be verified as part of the applied SERE training exercise.
Operating relating to the SERE training exercise will be conducted at the Rovajärvi exercise area, in the areas of Niesi–Perunkajärvi–Norvajärvi, and in the area of Rovaniemi City.
Soldiers in combat uniform with combat load will exercise in the terrain and in agglomerations. Part of the drill situations may involve civilian-attire-wearing target activity personnel.
In conjunction with the exercise drilling, the equipment used will include the Finnish Defence Forces’ helicopters, vehicles and vessels, and blank drill ammunition. Noise nuisance may result from helicopter activity and use of drill ammunition.
The SERE instructors’ course is part of the Army’s international education and training co-operation that develops the staff's SERE skills for the defense needs of the alliance and its member countries.
