Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki was on a working visit to Italy on 11-14 March 2025. During the visit, Lieutenant General Välimäki familiarised with air defence systems of the Italian Army at the Anti-aircraft Artillery Command Sabaudia, and was briefed by the 17th Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment "Sforzesca" on the most recent technological developments concerning, among other, CUAS.

The primary objective of the working visit was Volpe Bianca -exercise, in which Lieutenant General Välimäki familiarised with the operating and capabilities of the Italian Alpine Troops and discussed co-operation of the two countries as allies.

The Finnish Army's co-operation with the Italian Army and the Italian Alpine Troops in particular is natural and reciprocal. As in Finland, in the cold conditions at the Alps it remains necessary to master individual Soldier’s skills that provide the basis for survival in an operation environment that is severe. At present, employment of new technologies on the battlefield in demanding conditions is of specific interest. Forces continue to develop employment of new technologies while considering changes on the battlefield.

The Italian and Finnish Armies plan co-operation for the coming years with the objective to strengthen the defence capability of both countries.

While on the working visit, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki participated in a panel discussion held at the Arctic Forum Dolomites 2025.
