Commander of the U.S. Army Europe was familiarised with the activities of the Finnish Army

Commander of the U.S. Army Europe, Lieutenant General Christopher G. Cavoli was familiarised with the activities of the Finnish Army in Pohjankangas and Santahamina from 30 to 31 October 2018. The visit was hosted by Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Petri Hulkko.

During the visit, Lt. Gen. Cavoli visited an army mechanised training exercise conducted in Pohjankangas, where he was briefed on the operating of the Karelia Brigade readiness unit, and presented a live fire exercise. In addition, Lt. Gen. Cavoli was familiarised with a refresher training exercise of a mechanised unit, organised by the Armoured Brigade. The main emphasis of the training was to see, how the reservist unit would perform as a part of troop capability. In the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Lt. Gen. Cavoli was presented training and combat procedures in a built-up area. During his visit, Lt. Gen. Cavoli also met with the high command of the Finnish Defence Forces’.

During the visit, bilateral cooperating possibilities and training exercise cooperation between the U.S. European Command service components and the Finnish Army were charted concerning the coming years. Detachments of the of the U.S. European Command service components have been partaking in Finnish Army training exercise activities in Finland including, among others, the mechanised exercise Arrow since the year 2016.
