Artillery trains in early winter conditions in Rovajärvi
The Kainuu Brigade will lead the Northern Strike 225 regional artillery firing exercise in Rovajärvi from November 17 to 25, 2025.
The aim of the exercise is to train the Army's artillery system and develop its performance in demanding early winter conditions, as well as to practice different levels of command and artillery fire in joint firing exercises.
- In the Northern Strike 225 exercise, we combine tactical and operative firepower into a functional whole and practice integrating the capabilities of our allies into part of our defense.
- The exercise is the most significant artillery and mortar firing exercise for conscripts returning home in December in Northern Finland, where we will finalize the skills of the fire units in live-fire exercises, says exercise commander Lieutenant Colonel Kimmo Ruotsalainen.
In addition to Finnish troops from the Kainuu Brigade, Pori Brigade, Jaeger Brigade, and Border Guard, a Polish multiple rocket launcher battery will also participate in the exercise. The exercise will involve approximately 2,200 personnel and 500 vehicles.
The exercise troops will travel from Kajaani to Rovajärvi by bus, and most of the equipment will be transported by rail.
