The Defence Forces clears wartime explosives in the Misi area on 1–17 June 2026 and 3–21 August 2026
Led by the Jaeger Brigade, the Defence Forces clears wartime explosives around the Misi warehouse and village. Explosives are cleared from both land and inland waters.
During the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operations, wartime ordnance buried in the ground, sunk in inland waters and ricocheted in explosions is located and cleared. The ordnance is mainly of German origin.
The aim is to expand the areas that were cleared in the previous years along Misintie. In addition, the side of the road leading to Ylilampi, Rovaniemi is cleared. Clearing underwater ordnance is continued in inland waters north of Misi and Rovaniemi. Any ordnance found will be destroyed in Oksavaara.
During the EOD operations in the Misi area, The Defence Forces also prepares to clear other explosives that civilians have reported to the police. Explosives found elsewhere need to be reported to the police, who will make a request for executive assistance to the Defence Forces. EOD operations always involve risks and clearing is only carried out by trained specialists in appropriate protective gear. We ask anyone in the vicinity to not enter areas where military personnel are working in protective gear so as to not interrupt the clearing. We aim to minimise any inconveniences caused by the clearing.
