Kainuu Brigade maintains the readiness in its area of responsibility, and gives high-quality training for the conscripts and reservists alike. Kainuu Brigade is responsible for one third of the Finnish terrain.

By the number of conscripts Kainuu Brigade is one of the biggest units in Finland. The main body of the Brigade is located in Kajaani, some three kms south of the Kajaani city centre.
Regional offices that are located in Oulu, Kuopio and Joensuu are part of the Kainuu Brigade as well. Regional offices deal with all the issues concernig reservists. Area that Kainuu Brigade is responsible for, comprises of regions of North-Karelia, North-Savo, Kainuu and North-Ostrobothnia.
Kainuu Brigade is responsible for the defence planning and execution. Kainuu Brigade is training the Army's regional troops, arms troops and troops for the Border Guards. Brigade is responsible for the national defence in its area of responsibility, supports other authorities and deals with reservist matters. As a novelty, Kainuu Brigade is responsible for special training of winter sport athletes (Conscripts) in cooperation with Defence Forces Sports School. International success has been achieved in that programme, several world-class athletes have served in Kainuu Brigade.
The vision of Kainuu Brigade is to be advanced and wanted unit for the conscripts to perform their military service.
