11.6.2026 | During this spring, France conducted its first extended deployment to Finland, sending approximately 180 soldiers from the 27e Brigade d’Infanterie de Montagne. The mountain troops arrived at the end of February and departed at the beginning of June. French and Finnish soldiers exchanged expertise and significantly enhanced their capability to fight together in Nordic conditions.

18.3.2026 | The French and Finnish Armies are strengthening their long cooperation on training, exercises and operations. The 27th Mountain Infantry Battalion, which is trained to operate in winter conditions, will maintain a company-group with the Jaeger Brigade in Northern Finland until May.

27.2.2026 | This year, the Army Seminar programme included talks about Russia’s war of aggression given by Ukrainian soldiers and discussions about collective defence of NATO’s Eastern flank. Apart from Ukraine, the 7th Army Seminar also had participants from NATO member states’ Army commands, NATO commands and the Finnish Defence Forces’ services.

4.3.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the most important series of Arctic exercises on 9-20 March 2026. Exercise Cold Response 26, led by Norway, will bring 25,000 soldiers from 14 countries to Northern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden. The exercise is part of NATO’s enhanced presence, Arctic Sentry, which strengthens the Alliance's capability and permanent presence in the Nordic area.

19.9.2025 | ROVANIEMI, Finland - Commanders from across NATO’s respective army corps headquarters and land forces met here September 15-16 to discuss plans to experiment and field new technologies critical to establishing ground deterrence and providing ready land forces to the Alliance.

17.8.2023 | The multinational training exercise will be held in the region of southwestern and southern Finland during 27.8.-8.9.2023. The exercise will be participated by troops from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

3.4.2025 | The Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, visited France this week. The visit was hosted by the Commander of the French Army, General Pierre Schill. The commanders discussed various topics, including the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping operation, the ongoing situation in Ukraine, and FLF in Finland.

7.9.2023 | The CBRN reconnaissance exercise Reccex 23 will end on Friday 8 September as the exercise-participating reservists are mustered out and Nordic troops start their return marches. The two-week exercise focused on preventing and containing chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threats in an international framework.

31.5.2024 | The international combat exercise held in Rovajärvi brought together nearly 6,500 soldiers from Finland, the United States, and Norway, as well as staff personnel from Sweden. The main objective of the exercise was to enhance the interoperability of the participating nations' ground forces in the challenging terrain conditions of Northern Finland.

28.8.2023 | The Reccex 23 -participating training audience troops convened at Huovinrinne of Säkylä during 25–27 August. The successful motorised marches of the international units completed and Finnish reservists’ reception and equipping done, it was time to start training joint operating among the total strength of the training audience.

23.8.2023 | The exercise Reccex 23 will start at Huovinrinne on Monday 28 August. The motorised marches relating to the exercise may affect traffic already over the previous weekend.

10.7.2024 | The Commander of NATO’s Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC), Lieutenant General Ralph Wooddisse, visited Finland at the invitation of the Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, from 2-3 July 2024.

8.5.2017 | The commanders of the Nordic Armies have the tradition to get together every year to exchange experiences, and to discuss the present and the future.

21.11.2016 | One of the exercises to be held as part of the Army Combined Fires Exercise 2016 is the NORTHER 16 exercise, which takes place on 18–24 November 2016. A detachment of Swedish soldiers is also participating in the exercise. NORTHER 16 is a live firing exercise, the purpose of which is to train troops in joint firing procedures in a multinational operating environment and develop international interoperability.
