30.6.2026 | The Finnish Ministry of Defence, the Estonian Defence Forces, and the European AI lab for Defence NestAI have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on 30 June 2026 to advance the development of artificial intelligence capabilities. The LOI does not include financial commitments. Instead, it establishes a framework for knowledge sharing, joint development, training, and technical cooperation.

30.6.2026 | On Monday 6 July 2026, the conscripts of the summer contingent will report for military service in the Army. 9700 recruits will begin their military service in Army brigade-level units. Karelia Brigade, Pori Brigade and Kainuu Brigade will receive the largest numbers of recruits.

27.4.2026 | Kainuu Brigade will lead several exercises in Kainuu during May. The exercises will be executed primarily in Vuosanka and its immediate surroundings.

29.7.2022 | In Finland, the Army has organized large training entities which are part of additional international exercise and training activities. Finnish troops have also participated in many international exercises. The main objective of international exercises is to integrate and learn from other forces’ procedures, but for an individual soldier, they are much more than that. In international exercises, you get to train and experience new things that a conscript would not otherwise encounter.

10.2.2025 | The Army will organise the local defence exercises during 18.2.–7.3. this spring. From the Defence Forces, the altogether six local defence exercises will be participated by up to c. 3,000 conscripts, reservists, and service personnel, as well as more than 400 vehicles in total. As is characteristic for local defence exercises, the training audience will also include a significant number of other authorities and business sector stakeholders.

22.2.2024 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the Norwegian-led exercise Nordic Response 24 to be held in northern areas of Finland, Norway, and Sweden during 4–15 March 2024. Nordic Response 24 will mark the Army’s and the Finnish Defence Forces’ most substantial participation in a multinational exercise abroad. The strength of the Army training audience will be c. 2,500 personnel of whom 350 are service personnel, 1,060 conscripts, and 1,120 reservists.

20.5.2017 | Organising Finnish Rapid Deployment Force (FRDF) training for conscripts, the Pori Brigade ensures that everyone who has undertaken the FRDF training is offered an opportunity to attend an international exercise either in Finland or abroad. This particular exercise Kevadtorm 2017 in Estonia has enabled a Leguan bridge-laying vehicle section of Finnish reservists to train in a multinational operating environment.

6.11.2017 | A firing exercise of the Finnish Army, Exercise POHJOINEN17, will be organised in the exercise area of Rovajärvi from 13 to 24 November 2017.

8.11.2017 | The common Nordic RECCEX 17 CBRN exercise is held 17-24 November 2017 in Pirkanmaa, Satakunta and Southwest Finland. The exercise improves the readiness of the Finnish Defence Forces and the authorities to respond to situations involving hazardous materials. The exercise will be led by Pori Brigade.

23.10.2017 | A Nordic planning exercise of the air defence branch, the exercise Nordic Helmet 2017 will be organised in Mikkeli from 30 October to 2 November 2017.

22.11.2017 | On Thursday, a firing exercise of the Finnish Army, Pohjoinen 17, will end with closing support firing in Rovajärvi.

26.5.2017 | The Finnish reservists’ combat engineer platoon took part in the exercise Kevadtorm 2017 in Estonia on 14-25 May 2017. The strength of the Finnish contingent was 63 reservists and personnel led by the Pori Brigade.

21.6.2017 | The Army Academy’s Military Engineer School (MILENGS) organised a course module on combat engineer company (CBT ENG COY) operating in counter mobility operations on 12-22 June 2017 bringing students to Lappeenranta from Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, and Estonia. The objective of the course involved providing the attendees the prerequisites for functioning in the tasks of a commanding officer and 2IC of a CBT ENG unit subordinated to a battalion battlegroup (BN BG).

10.11.2016 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment organises an Urban Area Field Training Exercise from 14 to 25 November 2016 in Kvarn, Sweden.

31.7.2017 | Major General Petri Hulkko will assume the post of Commander of the Finnish Army on 1 August 2017. The Army Commander Change of Command Ceremony was held today 31 July 2017 in Mikkeli.

30.6.2017 | Impacted by the continuous changes affecting the operating environment, the Finnish Army and its personnel need to sustain substantial capability for overall learning, development of practices and renewal of abilities. Developing the expertise of salaried personnel presupposes accessing a versatile selection of methods that aids in both bringing about novel expertise and deepening, broadening as well as updating the already existing skills, knowledge and knowhow.

5.6.2017 | The Finnish Defence Forces will host the International Military Sports Council’s (CISM) 50th World Military Orienteering Championship from 10-16 June in the town and municipality of Hamina. In this jubilee event, the competition programme features competitions in Middle distance and Long distance, a Team race, as well as Relay.
