Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Internal Market visited Logistics Command Explosives Centre in Haapajärvi on 15 April 2024.

The Explosives Centre is responsible for the production, maintenance and decommissioning of explosives in the Finnish Defence Forces.

The focus of its production activities is on manufacturing heavy ammunition in cooperation with Finland’s defence industry. The centre’s mission is to safeguard the Finnish Defence Forces security of supply for ammunition in peace and wartime.

Due to the changes in the international security situation, Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command Explosives Centre and the Finnish industry have boosted their ammunition production since early 2022. in fall 2023 Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen decided on additional investments to domestic ammunition production capability. Measures improving the production capability of the Explosives Centre include starting new ammunition production lines, increasing and modifying the production of existing lines and reopening closed production facilities.
