Hedgehog 22
On 18–28 May 2022, the Army will participate in the exercise drill Siil / Hedgehog 22 arranged in Estonia. Consisting of reservists, conscripts and service personnel, the strength of the Finnish training audience detachment to the exercise will be up to circa 240 personnel in total. The detachment will be led by the Pori Brigade.
The main annual military exercise drill of the Estonian Defence Forces, the exercise Hedgehog 22 will be held in Southern Estonia from 16 May to 3 June 2022. The exercise will be participated by c. 15,000 personnel from altogether 11 nations.
From Finland, the exercise will be participated by a jaeger company and a combat engineer platoon formed by the Pori Brigade with composition involving reservists trained for the Finnish Rapid Deployment Force (FRDF). Also, the participating training audience will include service personnel and conscripts from the Pori Brigade, as well as service personnel from the Kainuu Brigade and Karelia Brigade. In the exercise drill, the units of the FDRF-trained Finnish reservists will operate as part of the 1. Brigade’s Scouts Battalion of the Estonian Defence Forces.
The set objective for the exercise participation is to develop and test the capabilities of the jaeger company and the combat engineer platoon on international missions. Additionally, Hedgehog 22 will exercise personnel’s competence in planning the providing of international assistance and in the implementation thereof, as well as in planning logistics support.
Hedgehog 22 is part of the Finnish Defence Forces’ international training and exercise activities for 2022 as approved by the Ministry of Defence.
