The Guard Jaeger Regiment is an Army brigade-level unit based on the island of Santahamina in Helsinki. Its main task to train troops specialising in combat in urban areas for defending the capital city area and the Uusimaa province.
Readiness and comprehensive security and safety is maintained and developed in cooperation with other authorities. Live-firing exercises in Santahamina and training in the Uusimaa region are an essential part of the training of combat-efficient wartime troops.
The capabilities of the Guard Jaeger Regiment can be used during disturbances in normal conditions, hybrid situations as well as more extensively to prevent and repel the use of force. During normal conditions, the Guard Jaeger Regiment is prepared to support other authorities in securing the vital functions of society
The Guard Jaeger Regiment is responsible for developing the Defence Forces' training in combat in urban and built-up areas. In addition to training its own personnel, the Regiment also trains other Defence Forces personnel for combat in urban areas.
The Guard Jaeger Regiment
• trains troops specialising in combat in urban areas for defending the capital city and Uusimaa
• maintains and develops military readiness and comprehensive security and safety in the capital city and Uusimaa area in cooperation with other authorities
• supports other authorities
• promotes citizens' will to defend the country through official representation duties and national defence work
• serves and advises conscripts
History of the Guard Jaeger Regiment
On 1 July 1996, the Guard Battalion and Uusimaa Jaeger Battalion were merged to form the Guard Jaeger Regiment. As a result of the Defence Forces Reform in 2015, the Guard Jaeger Regiment grew considerably in size as the South Finland Logistics Regiment's Logistics Centre and the Sports School were incorporated with it. In addition to this, the Guard Jaeger Regiment also assumed responsibility for a significant part of the tasks of the disbanded Southern Command.
