Independent Finland’s ground-based air defence turns 100 this year. In the course of decades, ground-based air defence has been developed for the purpose of the country being able to respond to air threats. Ground-based air defence, founded on a multi-layered capability of missile systems and projectile-based air defence weapons to repel offensives, on networked air defence command and control, and competent regular personnel, conscripts and reservists, is today a very effective and capable branch.

On 1 July 2025, it is 100 years since the beginning of ground-based air defence training in Finland. The Defence Forces honours the 100 year-old ground-based air defence branch by organising the Ground-Based Air Defence 100 Years event in Helsinki on 1 July. Admission to the event is free.

Karelian Brigade will lead the Karelian Sword 25 exercise in the Kymenlaakso region from May 23 to June 1, 2025.

The Guard Jaeger Regiment will lead Exercise Lively Sabre 25 in East Uusimaa and Kymeenlaakso from 21 - 31 May 2025.
