NATO’s Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) became operational at Mikkeli in conjunction with the Army Command on 1 September 2025, and the opening ceremony was held on 3 October 2025.

4.5.2026 | Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command (FDFLOGCOM) has joined the Coalition for Resilient Procurement and Unified Support (CORPUS) with the defense procurement agencies of seven European nations.

16.4.2026 | All brigade-level units of the Army will rehearse joint operating with allied countries’ contingents in the course of May. Several exercises executed simultaneously are aimed at strengthening the Army’s defence capability across Finland, conscripts’ know-how and joint operating with Allies. During the spring, a total of approximately 19,000 allied soldiers from Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway, France, United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Hungary and Poland will take part in the exercises.

17.2.2026 | Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki participated the working meeting of NATO commanders held in Norfolk during 10-12 February 2026. The commanders discussed at their meeting, among other, Arctic Sentry and topical operational issues.

2.3.2026 | The Commander of the Finnish Army met the Chief of the German Army, and familiarised with the operating of the Jaeger Battalion 91 in Rotenburg during his visit. The Commander also attended the Finnentag celebration marking this year the 111th anniversary since the start of Finnish Jaeger training at Hohenlockstedt.

15.12.2025 | The Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, presented the unit flag of the Karelia Brigade to Colonel Tomi Pekurinen on Monday, 15 December. Colonel Pekurinen will assume his duties as Commander of the Karelia Brigade on 1 January 2026.

22.9.2025 | Deputy Commander of NATO Joint Force Command Norfolk, Vice Admiral James Morley, and Chief of the Norwegian Army, Major General Lars Lervik visited Finland during 15—17 September 2025. The visit was hosted at the Army Command by Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki.

19.9.2025 | ROVANIEMI, Finland - Commanders from across NATO’s respective army corps headquarters and land forces met here September 15-16 to discuss plans to experiment and field new technologies critical to establishing ground deterrence and providing ready land forces to the Alliance.

17.11.2025 | Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki made a working visit to the Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) of NATO in Izmir, Turkey, on 13 November 2025.

NATO’s Multi-Corps Land Component Command Northwest (MCLCC-NW) celebrates its official inauguration on the 3rd of October, 2025, in Mikkeli. The flags of the current nations for the Core Staff Element are raised together with the NATO flag.

10.11.2025 | The purpose of the visit was to strengthen cooperation between the two nations’ Armies, and to identify opportunities for deepening cooperating.

28.3.2026 | Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki was on a working visit to Ukraine last week. The visit focused on the areas of Kiev, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia. During the visit, Lieutenant General Välimäki met leadership of the Ukrainian Army, and took note of the operating of the land forces as well as command echelons of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and new capabilities. Additionally, the visit provided the opportunity to familiarise with defence industry in Ukraine.
