The Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) have signed an implementation Arrangement on information exchange and pre-series procurement concerning the development of Arctic armoured personnel carriers.

The purpose of the agreement is to enable pre-commercial procurement of Trackx armoured personnel carriers designed by a Finnish defence and technology company Patria and cooperation between the Finnish and Swedish defence administrations in developing technology to improve land forces’ mobility in the Arctic conditions.

Patria’s Trackx vehicle has been designed within a multinational FAMOUS project co-funded by the Europen Defence Fund (EDF). The objective in the design process was to deliver a military vehicle that can operate smoothly on deep snow, marshes, sand dunes and other soft soil.

What Finland and Sweden Trackx is of particular interest because of its potential to improve land forces’ mobility in Arctic conditions.  The Implementation Agreement signed by the two countries enables pre-commercial procurement of Trackx vehicles and information exchange that is needed for both countries to be able to assess the suitability of the vehicles for use by their forces.

The Implementation Arrangement for Common Arctic Mobility (IA CAM) between Finland and Sweden was signed at the 2026 Eurosatory Defence and Security Event in Paris on 15 June by Lieutenant General Jari Mikkonen, the Finnish Defence Forces Deputy Chief of Staff, Armaments and Logistics, and Brigadier General Jonas Lotsne, Director of the Land Systems Department of the Swedish Defence Agency (FMV).
