Deputy Commander of NATO Joint Force Command Norfolk, Vice Admiral James Morley, and Chief of the Norwegian Army, Major General Lars Lervik visited Finland during 15—17 September 2025. The visit was hosted at the Army Command by Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki.

Vice Admiral Morley, Major General Lervik, and Lieutenant General Välimäki arrived at Mikkeli directly from the LC3-conference held at Rovaniemi. At the Army Command, the Commanders continued the discussion on the operating of the Northern Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) and development of joint land defence capabilities.

– The Northern Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) located in Finland brings together national and joint land defence capabilities aimed at strengthening the Alliance’s northern flank, Vice Admiral Morley says.

During their visit at the Army Command, the Commanders were also familiarised with the work of the MCLCC that became operational at the beginning of September and its staff element at Mikkeli.

– From planning and preparing joint exercises during peacetime, to commanding and controlling operations during crisis and conflict, the MCLCC will contribute to increased readiness and interoperability of Allied forces, Vice Admiral Morley points out.
