14.1.2026 | Finland’s withdrawal from the Ottawa Anti-Personnel Landmines Convention took effect on 10 January. The Defence Forces will start measures for acquiring anti-personnel landmines and providing the Defence Forces personnel, conscripts and reservists with anti-personnel landmine training.

2.10.2025 | On 16 September 2025, Command Senior Enlisted Leaders (CSEL) of NATO member nations’ land forces familiarised with conscript training of the Army at the Jaeger Brigade during the NATO Land Command conference (LC3).

9.2.2024 | Co-operation between the Finnish Army and the Swedish Army brought Chief of Swedish Army, Major General Jonny Lindfors to the Jaeger Brigade during 8-9 February 2024. The visit was hosted by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki.

10.4.2024 | The Army combined fires are an entity formed by combined-arms interoperable operating to which also joint fires of the Air Force, of the Navy, and of the Allies are integrated. The capabilities of combined fires have been developed in the long term for years now.

24.8.2023 | Local defence will be exercised throughout the country during 1.–8. September. Across Finland, the exercises will develop collective security, inter-agency co-operation, and the ability to prepare for disturbance situations. Joint drilling will include, for instance, situations relating to rescue activity and civil protection.

27.3.2017 | On a regular basis, the Finnish Rapid Deployment Force trained by the Pori Brigade participates in international exercises organized abroad. This in turn enables enhancing forces’ cooperation capability and implementing international crisis management tasks as well as developing Finnish soldiers’ capability to provide and receive assistance in case of crisis.

21.4.2017 | Allowing for substituting expensive or high-risk forms of operating by means of simulation modelling, simulator-assisted training has become mainstream both in the Finnish Defence Forces and in society overall. This development has brought about novel possibilities for implementing versatile methods for sustaining motivation in learning and instruction. Over the coming years, the Finnish Defence Forces will increasingly employ simulators in training contexts.

9.2.2017 | The Finnish Defence Forces' Sports School trains reconnaissance sections for exceptional circumstances. Most athletes complete leadership training, serving for 347 days.

13.1.2017 | Starting military service may be a big change for many young people. The social environment and operating culture can be very different from what they are used to. Approximately 10,000 recruits started their military service in the Army on 2 January. About 300 of them are women in voluntary military service.
