5.5.2026 | Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, reviewed the Armoured Brigade-led mechanised forces exercise in Pohjankangas, Finland on 28 – 30 April 2026.

18.5.2026 | The northern part of the Ramstein Flag 26 live-fly exercise will take place in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark from 8 to 19 June 2026.

28.3.2026 | Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki was on a working visit to Ukraine last week. The visit focused on the areas of Kiev, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia. During the visit, Lieutenant General Välimäki met leadership of the Ukrainian Army, and took note of the operating of the land forces as well as command echelons of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and new capabilities. Additionally, the visit provided the opportunity to familiarise with defence industry in Ukraine.

The Finnish Defence Forces will shift to using the NATO-standard calibres 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm, 9x19mm, and 12.7x99mm for new small arms. The decision taken will improve, among other, the soldier’s operating capability, interoperability, and security of supply.

19.9.2025 | ROVANIEMI, Finland - Commanders from across NATO’s respective army corps headquarters and land forces met here September 15-16 to discuss plans to experiment and field new technologies critical to establishing ground deterrence and providing ready land forces to the Alliance.

5.5.2025 | The Kainuu Brigade will lead Northern Strike 125, a live-fire exercise, and Northern Star 25, a combat exercise, at Rovajärvi during 12-31 May 2025. In total, the exercises will be participated by up to c. 6,500 personnel of whom 900 will be from Sweden and 350 from the UK.

7.3.2024 | Part of the main battles of the military exercise that is part of NATO’s Steadfast Defender 24 series take place in the Hetta and Kivilompolo road area from March 7 to March 9. The battles will have an effect on the traffic in the region.

17.8.2023 | The multinational training exercise will be held in the region of southwestern and southern Finland during 27.8.-8.9.2023. The exercise will be participated by troops from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

19.4.2023 | The Armoured Brigade will lead the Army mechanized exercise Arrow 23 at the Pohjankangas shooting and training area in Niinisalo from 1 to 14 May 2023. Of the total strength of ca. 2200 persons taking part in the exercise, more than one thousand are conscripts and about 850 international troops.

6.7.2016 | Fire and rescue teams from the Finnish-Irish Battalion (FINIRISHBATT) and Austrian unit organized a joint exercise in UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura 30.6.2016.

26.4.2016 | The mechanised exercise of the Finnish Army (Arrow 16), led by the Armoured Brigade, will take place in Pohjankangas, Niinisalo, from 2 to 13 May 2016. The aim of the exercise is to develop interoperability and improve operational capabilities of the Army's mechanised units. A US Army Europe detachment will take part in the exercise as part of the two armies' bilateral cooperation.

26.5.2016 | The regional combat exercise METSO 16, led by Kainuu Brigade, will take place in Vuosanka, Kuhmo, from 3 to 10 June 2016.
