Allies’ flyover in Helsinki on 17 June
A joint flyover coincides with the U.S. Independence Day celebrations in the U.S. Embassy in Finland. The flyover aircraft are participating in the ongoing Atlantic Trident 25 exercise.
Two Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet fighters and two F-15 fighters from the US Air Force are scheduled to conduct a flyover above the U.S. Embassy on 17 June at about 3:00 pm.
The aircraft will fly from east to west off the coast of Helsinki, south of Katajanokka. The flyover will be carried out weather permitting.
The aircraft conducting the flyover are involved in the ongoing Atlantic Trident 25 exercise and they operate from Pirkkala Air Base of Satakunta Air Wing.
- A joint flyover in honour of the Allied nation’s celebrations is a natural way to demonstrate support to the Ally and strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the Allies. At the same time, it offers the opportunity to highlight the defence cooperation between Finland and the U.S. in connection with an internationally large training exercise, says Colonel Vesa Mäntylä, Deputy Chief of Staff Air Force Command Finland.
Atlantic Trident is a trilateral exercise jointly conducted by the United States, British and French Air Forces, usually held every two years. The exercise hosted by Finland is the first occurrence of Atlantic Trident staged outside these three countries.
